Bucks Night in Melbourne: The Best Man’s Guide to Planning It Properly
Congratulations, you've been handed the bucks. It's an honour, a responsibility and, if we're honest, a fair bit of admin. The good news is that a great bucks night in Melbourne doesn't need to be complicated. It needs a date, a headcount, a budget and someone willing to chase the group chat. That someone is you.
Here's how to plan it properly, from the first message to the last ride home.
Step 1: Lock the Date With the Groom
Start with the groom, not the group. Ask him for two or three dates that work, then check them against the wedding. Most crews aim for two to six weeks out: close enough to feel like part of the wedding season, far enough that the bucks and the wedding don't blur together.
Friday and Saturday nights are popular, so if you're set on a weekend, book early. Midweek nights are often easier to book and can suit groups with shift workers or interstate mates.
Step 2: Get a Real Headcount
Everyone says yes in the group chat. Fewer people say yes when the deposit is due. Send a clear message with the date, the plan and a rough cost, and ask for a firm yes or no by a set deadline.
Group size shapes everything else, so a solid headcount early on saves a lot of back-and-forth. Packages are for groups of 10 or more. Smaller group? Get in touch and we'll see what we can put together.
Step 3: Set the Budget (and Be Upfront About It)
Nothing kills the mood like a surprise bill. Work out a per-person budget that covers the main costs:
dinner or a group feed
the main venue package and club entry
transport there and home
a buffer for the unexpected
Tell everyone the number before they commit. It's also traditional for the crew to cover the buck's share, so build that in.
Step 4: The Best Man's Checklist
Pin this to the top of the group chat:
☐ Date confirmed with the groom
☐ Final headcount and deposit collected
☐ Dinner booked for the whole group
☐ Main venue booked and confirmed in writing
☐ Transport sorted, there and home
☐ Everyone reminded to bring valid photo ID
☐ Dress code shared (smart casual)
☐ A rough run sheet with times
☐ One sensible mate nominated to keep an eye on things
☐ A plan for the buck to get home safely
What a Typical Melbourne Bucks Night Looks Like
Every crew is different, but a classic Melbourne bucks night runs something like this:
Afternoon: an activity to break the ice, such as go-karting, golf, a cooking class or an escape room.
Early evening: a proper group dinner in the CBD. It gets everyone in the same place, fed and in good spirits.
Main event: the club. On King St, that means a booked package of shows for your group and a crew that can finally relax because the hard part is done.
Late: something to eat on the way home, and everyone accounted for.

Etiquette: How to Be the Crew Everyone Wants Back
A great bucks night is one where everyone, including the performers and staff, has a good time. A few house rules go a long way:
Respect the performers. Our house rules are simple: look, enjoy and cheer, but no touching the performers at any time, and no photos or videos. Follow the directions of performers and staff. Anyone who doesn't will be asked to leave.
Listen to staff and security. They're there to make sure the night runs well.
Keep the stitch-up good-natured. The buck should be laughing, not wishing he'd stayed home.
Make sure the buck's in on it. Our performers keep the stitch-up light and will dial it back if he isn't comfortable. Tell us when you book if anything's off limits.
Look after your mates. If someone's had a big day, get them water, food or a ride home.
Leave the drinking games at home. The night's about the buck, not who can keep up.
Responsible Service: The Non-Negotiables
Centrefold Lounge is 18+ only. Every guest needs valid government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's licence or passport, with no exceptions. That includes the buck.
We serve responsibly, and our team follows RSA rules at every bar, every night. Staff may refuse entry or service to anyone who's had too much, so pace the afternoon and evening, eat a proper dinner, and keep water in the mix. The aim is a buck who remembers his own party.
What to Wear
Smart casual. Thongs, singlets and sportswear aren't permitted. If the buck's in costume for the stitch-up, check with our team when you book.
